To many, however, this only added to the mysterious quality of both the music and the band itself. What piqued people's attention was the sound quality of the EP the disc was heavily affected by disc rot, so the music on it (a hybrid of indie rock, Dream Pop, and Trip Hop) had a heavily compressed and crushed sound to it. It wouldn't be until Jthat Deathmetal started gaining attention: a user on 4chan's /mu/ board published a post about the EP, which they found at an Oxfam charity shop and were unable to find any sort of information regarding it on the internet. Today, we have what ultimately stands as a discography compilation for the band: D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L remastered.

Not much is known about their history, and the EPs remained lost in obscurity for several years. He remastered it for a proper re-release, and to make the deal even sweeter, old hard drives were searched until he recovered the only other three songs Panchiko recorded as a band (dubbed the Kicking Cars EP) to complete the package. An internet user discovers an age-corrupted copy of D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L in a charity store, uploads it to the internet, and the mysterious bitcrushed anomaly then makes its way around cyberspace. They disappeared shortly afterwards but re-appeared in the public eye in 2020. The band recorded two EPs: The four-song Deathmetal (stylized as D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L), released in 2000 in a limited quantity of around 30 to 40 CD-R copies, and the three-song Kicking Cars, released in 2001. The young, nave spirit in me that begs to believe there was actually an EP called D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L released in 2000 (on exactly one CD, to exactly one record store in Nottingham, U.K) is fighting with my adult inclination that viral marketing campaigns for new music can very realistically reach this absurd level in 2020. Panchiko are an electro-rock/indie rock group from Nottingham, England, consisting of Owain on vocals, Andy on guitar, Shaun on bass, and John on drums. At first I thought that D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L was just a normal album, it looked really interesting, and the only thing I really knew about it was it was released originally in 2000 and then re-released earlier this year, what I didn’t know was there was a huge history behind it, one that interested me, a lot.
